Musing Mondays (Sept 15)

20140505-133301.jpgMusing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

This is a weekly meme hosted by Should Be Reading.

I am moving soon (as you have probably already gathered from some of my recent posts) and I never once considered how much of a pain it is going to be to transport my entire book collection to the new house. Coming from my parents place to the apartment was pain enough and I had WAY less books then. My collection has grown SO MUCH over the past two years (tripled maybe? shhh don’t tell the husband!) and it is going to need a lot of time and patience and muscle to get things packed and moved. Anyone have any tips or advice for moving books? I sure could use some! hehe

What are you musing about this Monday?

Been there, done that . . . it’s a challenge! The trick is to use smaller boxes–otherwise the boxes just get too heavy. Books are definitely NOT lightweight objects! Also, go through and do some weeding before you pack your books and take a trip to the used bookstore to avoid moving books that you really don’t want.
The fun part is arranging the books on your shelves in your new home. 🙂
    Good luck!!!

Bookmammal has it right – look forward to arranging them in the new home. At least you’re close enough to make multiple trips. You wouldn’t believe how many books I got rid of the last two times I moved. One was 800 miles and the other was 500 miles so multiple trips were not an option as they had been previously.

Oh wow! Those were far moves!! I am glad I don’t have that packing pressure lol Multiple trips is going to be much easier than getting everything packed right away!

I just recently moved, so I can feel you on how on earth you’re going to transport all of your books. Luckily, most of my books are in milk crates or baskets, so it’s moveable. If you have to use boxes, if you can find any of the Staples boxes that hold the 8×11 packs of copy paper, those are awesome. They have handles and can handle a large load.

    Good luck on your move!

Milk crates!! Thats a good idea! Plus they stack pretty well!! I’ve seen suggestions for the copy paper boxes, handles would be quite helpful! Thanks for the tips!
