So you’re curious about the face behind the book blog, eh? Well you’ve come to the right place! Let me tell you a bit about me..

Most importantly: my name is Shannon.

I have one serious addiction in life: Books. I read a lot and buy way more than I could ever read. I want to one day have my very own library – hence the ever growing collection. My all time favorite books are 1984 by George Orwell and Choke by Chuck Palahniuk. Total opposite ends of the spectrum right? You can thank an eclectic taste in genres for that! I also can’t forget the honourable mentions: Harry Potter by JK Rowling, Slaughter-House Five by Kurt Vonnegut, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Divergent by Veronica Roth and the list goes on! I am a 28-year-old Library Technician and Information Advisor. I am happily married to the greatest man ever! I have so many plans for the future. The big ones: furthering my education until I complete a Masters in Library and Information Science, turning this blog in to more-than-a-hobby, growing my family, and landing a sweet permanent library gig. I am a vegetarian. I like all things purple. I love the fall seasonΒ and adore fall colours!Β I’m a proud mother of the most adorable fur babies in the world: Chinchillas – Pebbles (R.I.P), Cheerios, Azzy, Mally, Buzzy, and Puppy – Millie! Insane full house!

My other passions: Music, Movies, and Television. I love discovering new bands. I love book recommendations. I love quotes. I love lyrics. I love new and old friends. πŸ™‚

Why eatupmyfreetime?

When looking for a blog name, I wanted to find something bookish and meaningful. Without stealing a book title or authors name (or sticking with the boring Shannon’s Book Blog) I finally settled on something great. As I mentioned above, one of my favorite books is Choke by Chuck Palahniuk. Within this book you will also find one of my favorite quotes:

β€œWhat I want is to be needed. What I need is to be indispensable to somebody.

Who I need is somebody that will eat up all my free time, my ego, my attention.

Somebody addicted to me. A mutual addiction.”

Isn’t that beautiful? I know within the context of the story it may seem odd, but I adore this quote! But there’s more! Not only is this MY favorite book, but the amazing man I married is also a huge fan. In fact, bonding over this book is what made me fall in love with him! *BEWARE: cute story ahead!* On our first date I rambled on about how much I loved this book (I also rambled on about a lot of other random and un-date things thanks to a major case of nerves). After our date, Matt went out and bought the book and read it within a week (note that he is not a reader! This is HUGE) because he wanted to be able to discuss my favorite book with me!! THIS IS LOVE! ❀ Didn’t I say this would be cute?!?

Sooooo that is the story behind the name and the gal who writes all of these random book musings! Hope you enjoyed!!

If you want to know more, feel free to ask! And do NOT hesitate to introduce yourself! Did I mention that I love to make new friends?!

On a side note, because I have been watching way too much television lately, I will share some awesome TV shows that you MUST watch:
Gilmore Girls, Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, True Blood, Fringe, Community, Orange is the New Black, Pretty Little Liars, The Killing, Supernatural, Dexter. SO MUCH TV!! What are your fave shows??

Thanks for stopping by!

xox Shannon

Shannon, weirdly I was at Barnhill in Jura last year where George Orwell wrote 1984. Very beautiful though slightly eerie and hard to get to place. But for GO fans, a pilgrimage must πŸ™‚

No, I haven’t. In college a friend of mine did and she said they were good. Have you? What are your thoughts?

      • Shannon says:

I have! I’ve read all but the last two I believe. They are good! Super light easy reads. Not dark like the show. More “chick lit” style. Some stuff is similar to the show but the TV series moves away from the books after awhile. I prefer the tv series but I do enjoy the books when I want something fun to read (and get to know more about the characters)

Hey there Shannon! Just clicking around the blogosphere and commenting on blogs that I think are fun and interesting, and you’re one of them. October is my birthday month, so consider this an invitation to my month-long birthday party. Hope to see you over at That’s So Jacob sometime!
