New and Old Books!

It has been a very good week for new (to me) books! I ordered a few with birthday money and got some freebies from work (thanks to people who moved out of the office but didn’t want to take the books with they. Score!)

Purchased What Goes Around (a two book combo) by Courtney Summers. One of the books in here – Some Girls Are – has recently been challenged by a parent and then banned from a high school due to content and language. I am not a fan of censorship.. especially when a person feels the need to get books banned FOR OTHER PEOPLE. Ick. Not cool. So I had to see what all of the fuss is about..

I am on a Library Cozy Mystery kick right now. Loooove stories with Librarians as the main character. I picked up a few sequels and a new library mystery to feed in to this new addiction. Tons of fun!

And the freebies! Thank you to the people who left these behind. I am always down for new items to add to my collection 😉

What new books did you receive this week?

Back to Real Life..

wpid-imag0274.jpg

I can’t believe vacation is already over! I look forward to this week of holidays all year and the minute it gets here it goes by so quickly.. cry. I guess it is time to get back to real life.

I miss it. Vacation was TONS of fun. We shopped (way too much) and hung out at the beach. We visited wineries and drank lots of yummy wines AND ATE SO MUCH FOOD. I probably gained 20lbs last week. It was so worth it. The food there is delicious!

I didn’t find much time to read *thumbsdown* We were out and about a lot and didn’t feel up to it when we got back to the cottage. I did manage to find time to buy books 😉 There is always time to shop.. especially for books!

I picked up some used books (mostly classics) from the library book sale and the local book shop. If I had more money I would’ve come home with more.. Husband wouldn’t like that too much. lol.

Can I go back like NOW?!?! 😦

How was your week/weekend?

Musing Mondays (Aug 18)

20140505-133301.jpgMusing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

This is a weekly meme hosted by Should Be Reading.

This monday I am going to talk about the book(s) I am currently reading + thoughts on them!

So.. I am still reading Lily-Josephine by Kate Saunders.

lj

I am having a hard time with it. It isn’t holding my attention or interest. The story is slightly confusing because it constantly jumps back and forth in time and there are quite a few characters who’s stories are being followed. It is also quite a mature book..which I didn’t see coming! Not that I have any issues with detailed sex scenes but it almost seems ill fitting in this book. I will try to get through it.. It may get better!

In the meantime, I added a second book to read (and hopefully bring back my reading mojo because Lily-Josephine is kind of killing it lol)

Think  Like A Freak by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner.

I’m not that far in to this one yet but am loving it already!! I adored Freakonomics!! So I have very high expectations for this book. I hope it doesn’t disappoint.

What book(s) are you reading? Or what are you musing about this Monday?

I’m going to talk about my recent purchases from my trip! We (me + Husband & his parents) love to visit Prince Edward County every year for a week vacation in August. We go to relax by the beach, shop, hit up wineries, and eat lots of yummy food! There is this wonderful independent bookstore in Picton, Ontario that has some pretty good deals on books! This year I made out with some awesome Young Adult Books.

I picked up the following:

Legend by Marie Lu
Eon by Alison Goodman
Eona by Alison Goodman
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

What books did you get for Christmas?!

Birthday Book Buys!

My birthday came and went with a splash! I spent the day with my wonderful husband in Montreal ❤ We shopped and then went to our absolute favorite restaurant (L’Usine de Spaghetti. EVERYONE must go!!) Afterwards we met up with one of my BFFs and her boy for drinks. It was SO much fun!

There’s a lovely photo by my talented husband! (Taken on our mini honeymoon in Montreal)

On top of my super awesome day, I also got some wicked gifts; including a gift card for boooooooks.

So this is what I spent the gift card on:

FANGIRL

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell! I absolutely adored Eleanor & Park and want to see if this is just as good! There has been a lot of good buzz surrounding this book, so my hopes are pretty high!

loversdictionary

I’ve been hearing great things about this book and David Levithan. The concept intrigued me, especially written in dictionary format?? I also chose this book because I needed to find an Alternative Format Teen book, and what’s more alternative than a dictionary?? I know, this is not technically a teen book but so many of his readers are teens and have boasted about this book..so I think it works! I cannot wait to read this!

ocean

This will be my first Neil Gaiman book, and I am super excited to read it! I’ve only been hearing amazing things about him for years, so its about time I picked one of his books up! Not sure if this book is where I should begin this journey (What are your fave Gaiman books?!!?) but I figured it couldn’t hurt!

orange_new_black-216x326

I couldn’t get enough of the show. It was soooo beyond addicting!!! Figured I would get my fix until the next season (I hope this is still happening?!) by reading the book it is based on!

Soooo YAY NEW BOOKS!! I’m excited to get started on these!!

What are your recent purchases?

More Books! My Shelves Are At Capacity!

More book shopping means little to no floor space left in my room. I need to move out and build that personal library I’ve been dreaming about!

I picked up four books from a second hand shop today, all in pretty decent condition!

  • Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson (Already read and loved. Now it’s part of my collection!)
  • I’d Know You Anywhere by Laura Lippman
  • Let The Great World Spin by Colum McCann
  • The Given Day by Dennis Lehane
